Michelle R. Horton is the founder and Chief Driver of YOUniversity Drive, LLC, a national organization dedicated to helping high school and college students bridge the gap between academics and the real world of work. With a focus on college and career readiness, and leadership and professional development, YOUniversity Drive’s mission is to provide access and exposure to the next generation of leaders and to encourage them to “get behind the wheel of your own success…YOU Drive!”™

Prior to launching YOUniversity Drive, Michelle spent over a decade in corporate America developing marketing strategies for leading brands. She transitioned into the classroom in 2009 as a Marketing and Retail Management professor at Johnson C. Smith University. In addition to leading YOUniversity Drive, Michelle serves as the Director of Experiential Learning & Leadership Development at Wake Forest University’s School of Business. She develops hands on educational programs to enhance the leadership preparedness and management skills of her students.

Michelle was recently selected as Pride Magazine’s “Making It Count” feature story for the November 2015 issue and featured in the Charlotte Business Journal’s Entrepreneur 2015 spotlight for her work with YOUniversity Drive. She has also been featured in the 2012 edition of “Who’s Who in Black Charlotte,” recognized as one of the Charlotte Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 Class of 2011, featured in Uptown Magazine’s “Finest” section for up and comers in Charlotte, and received the 2011 Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year Award for the College of Professional Studies at JCSU.

Michelle is also active in her community. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and Jack and Jill of America, Inc. Michelle enjoys mentoring young women and girls, and has regular speaking engagements at local colleges/universities, civic organizations, and churches.

Michelle received her undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an MBA from Wake Forest University where she was a recipient of the Babcock Award – an honor given to students who demonstrate exceptional scholastic performance, leadership, and integrity. Michelle resides in Charlotte with her husband and they are the proud parents of two wonderful children.
