CMPD Financial Crimes Unit
Tawanda Garrison is a Detective assigned to the Financial Crimes Unit with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. She joined the department in 1998 and has been assigned to the Financial Crimes Unit since 2003. The Financial Crimes Unit investigates the following offenses: Identity Theft, Forgery, Embezzlement, Larceny by Employee, Exploitation of Elder/Disabled Adults, Financial Transaction Card Fraud, and False Pretense. There were over 3,500 cases investigated in 2016. Detective Garrison has had the primary responsibility of investigating Financial Exploitation of Elder/Disabled Adults and Embezzlement cases. She is a member of the Carolina’s Chapter of the International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators (IAFCI) and has also served on the Carolina’s Chapter Board as Secretary.
